Summary
Water & Air Research, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Engineer to join our
Environmental Services team. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career
engineer to develop technical expertise in the assessment and remediation of petroleum-contaminated
sites while working alongside experienced Project Managers and senior technical staff.
The Entry-Level Engineer assists with planning and executing environmental investigations, field
activities, technical analyses, and report preparation while gaining experience with the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP).
Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with environmental assessment and remediation projects from planning through completion.
- Perform field work including groundwater, soil, and remediation system sampling in accordance with FDEP Standard Operating Procedures under varying weather conditions and occasional travel throughout Florida.
- Coordinate and oversee field activities including drilling operations, monitoring well installations, remediation system installations, and subcontractor activities.
- Prepare field documentation, calibration records, and quality assurance/quality control documentation.
- Analyze environmental data and assist in evaluating site conditions and remediation alternatives.
- Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, database management, and project organization.
- Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project team members.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and web-based office interfaces (such as Google Workspace).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel based on project needs.
Preferred
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Experience with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP).
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience with groundwater and soil sampling.
- Familiarity with environmental data analysis, technical report preparation, and environmental field equipment including PID/FID instruments.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and field activities.
